Over the years I have been experimenting a lot with all kinds of on- or off-line tools for route planning and driving them. Although the internet carries loads of information on the Navigation topic it is sometimes hard to bring all the pieces together.
In the end the Garmin devices became the first choice. And the current versions XT/XT2 will be the main devices explained in the following pages.
On these pages we will present information on the main topic's Route Planning, Transferring data to the Device, Device Settings and Best practices.
I will let the pages grow organically, based on events or questions I get from other Users.
They will present my way of working. There are others but for that you need to approach other sources.
Enjoy
Until the end of the 90' driving tours on your Motorbike using a map in a tank-bag or a role based route was the way to go. There was no other way.
Starting from the early 21' century the first Garmin Street-Pilot really gave another dimension to motorbike Touring. Instead of concentrating on the paper maps and searching for the right turns the street pilot helped driving around without ever stopping again.
Models like the Street-Pilot, GPSmap, and several types of Zumo's 550, 660, 590, 595 preceded the current Zumo XT ranges.
Garmin has been a real pioneer for GPS devices on the motorbike. But they also had some very disappointing models in their road map.
These pages will focus on the latest. For now these are the XT and the XT2.
Who knows what will follow
